Running my first Half Marathon

I have been running for about four years now. I mostly have ran 5 Ks  and sometimes those could kick my butt. Back in January (2012) my sister Marge came up with this idea of running the Disney Princess Half Marathon. When I reluctantly said, "Lets do it." I than had to take this running and training stuff seriously.

I started by counting how many weeks I had to train, figured I would increase my miles by one a week till the big day. During this training period I found out a few things about myself; one I am the only one that can motivated myself. Even though family and friends were very supportive (even though some would ask why, and is anyone chasing you). Second, my body maybe weak by my mind is strong. Sometimes during training   my legs didn't want to run anymore but I knew that I had to keep going. I couldn't let my sister down and I couldn't let the nay sayers win.
Every week I did increase my miles and text my parents and Margie about my accomplishment of the week. The response was usually the same that they were proud and to keep up the good work.

The day of the race came. I was scared, excited and anticipatory. The run was unbelievable  There was entertainment around every corner keeping your mind off of the many miles to come. My sister and I did stop a few times for pictures. Had to take one with Captain Jack!
By mile 10 I felt like the world was mine. The months of training all made sense at this point. I was going to do it. All that was left was a 5k. Running side by side with my sister I felt unstoppable. After turning the last corner and listening to the gospel choir singing and then I saw it, the finish line. There was nothing that was going to stop me! Grabbing my sister my the arm we made our last strides to the finish line.  I gave a big high five to Goofy and crossed! I did it!

Once I put all of the fear and doubts off to the side. I concentrate on me and what I wanted and needed to accomplish my goal. That is when I realized that all of that pain, sweat, and tears was worth every 13.1 miles. Am I crazy enough to do it again, you bet!
